Lecture: TRIPLO: an innovative approach to port noise management

Author(s): Nencini Luca, Cerniglia Andrea, Cutugno Paola, Guerra Stefan, Lazzaroni Monica, Magrini Anna, Marconi Lucia

Summary:
The high level of noise pollution in port areas, in urban surroundings and behind logistic platforms connected to port areas themselves, represents a common problem for all the areas involved in the project. The main sources of noise pollution in the areas mentioned above do not only originate directly from the port activities themselves, but also from traffic (road, rail) and from industrial activities linked directly or indirectly to port activity.\nThe TRIPLO project aims to experiment acoustic sensor networks associated with computational linguistic methods, in urban and sub-urban areas related to logistics platforms, to characterize the acoustic phenomena related to goods flows to and from commercial ports in order to gain useful knowledge for public bodies (Municipalities / Regions) to better plan interventions and actions for the mitigation of noise pollution.
