Summary:
Operational working domain of bi directional turbines used to harvest energy from thermoacoustic engines\n\nMarius Deaconu, Dan Radulescu, Georgel Vizitiu\n\nThermo-acoustic engines require a way to extract the acoustic energy they produce. Several methods are available, like linear alternators, piezoelectric and magnetostrictive devices . The main problem here is the efficiency and limited scalability. Recently, the use of bi directional impulse turbines, similar to that used for ocean waves energy was proposed . \nThis paper uses CFD simulations in order to evaluate several characteristics of this kind of turbines considering a typical input generated by a thermos-acoustic engine. Aerodynamic losses within guided vanes are of special interest. We use different amplitudes and frequencies for the received acoustic waves and evaluate power and turbine efficiency. \nNext step is to analyze the results and identify the best working domain for the bidirectional impulse turbines.
