Lecture: Subjective vocal effort of elementary school teachers in Vienna

Author(s): Muellner Herbert, Benklewski Jakub, Chmelik Vojto, Huber Thomas

Summary:
Selective measurements of the reverberation time in classrooms show that the room acoustics related requirements are often by far not met. This is mainly the case in particular if school-buildings are investigated which were built or renovated respectively before 2000.\n\nThe influence of suboptimal room acoustics conditions in classrooms on the relation of job satisfaction, health aspects and the subjective vocal effort of teachers of elementary schools in Vienna was evaluated by conducting an online survey. \n\nIn a case study the subjective effect regarding vocal effort in recently room acoustically optimized class rooms has been investigated by applying a semi structured interview. The results show the relation of usually applied room acoustic parameters like STI recommended in the requirements and the subjectively expressed vocal effort of the teaching staff.\n\n
