Lecture: Effect of Layout Form of Dining Space on Its Acoustic Environment in Large Pension Institute in China

Author(s): Hu Yue, Fu Yao, Yang Yang

Summary:
As the dining space in the large pension institute is the major public space for dining and communication of the elderly, the quality of its acoustic environment is very important for both psychological and physical health of the elderly. Therefore, the research on the correlation between layout form of dinning space and its acoustic environment plays a significant role in improving the quality of acoustic environment therein and instructing relevant architectural space design. The thesis is aimed at studying the correlation between layout of dining space and sound perception of acoustic environment. The author selects dining space of three typical large pension institutes as research object, adopts the methods of field measurement, questionnaire survey, as well as data statistics and analysis and conducts comparative analysis on the three common layout forms----centralized mode, cornered mode and independent mode. The result shows that, the sound level of centralized dinning space is the highest, reaching up to 69.8dB (A); while the sound level of independent dining space is the lowest, staying at 65.0dB (A). And in regard to the influence of layout forms on sound perception, the acoustic comfort degree of the cornered space, 3.4, is the best. The researches above will not only provide foundation for promoting the dining space for the elderly effectively, but also provide references for the designers in arranging dining space.
