Lecture: The benefits of validating your aircraft noise model

Author(s): Trow James, Allmark Claire

Summary:
For aircraft noise, CNOSSOS-EU adopts ECAC Doc. 29 3rd Edition (December 2005) and the ICAO ANP database version 2 as the aircraft noise calculation method and database. This method has been incorporated into Commission Directive 2015/996 establishing the common noise assessment methods according to Directive 2002/49/EC. In doing so, Directive 2015/996 sets out standardised aircraft performance and noise characteristics as contained in the Aviation Environmental Design Tool (AEDT).\n\nThis paper explores the scope provided within Directive 2015/996 for the derivation of bespoke and airport specific aircraft performance and noise characteristics and why such approach can be beneficial to airports and their stakeholders, as well as calculating more representative noise exposure information. The paper discusses and provides examples of how the requirements of Directive 2015/996 for documenting and reporting any bespoke modelling can be accomplished along with how such information can be made public.
