Summary:
In order to better understand the human speech organ, the Eunison project (fp7eunison.com) has been pursued with the funding from the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme for research, technological development and demonstration.\n\nIn the context of this project, numerical simulations for a unified model that performs one way coupling between a fluid structure interaction-contact model to an acoustic model has been produced. These simulations have used Lighthill’s analogy and wave equations in mixed form to perform one way coupling of the incompressible flow model to the acoustic model and have successfully reproduced the first 3 formants of the vowel /i/ on a designed geometry. The main challenge with these simulations was the computational cost of order 1e5 core-hours for the simulation of a flow with Reynolds number 1200 and total time of order 1e-1 seconds .\n\nIn this talk we are going to present our follow-up works aimed at improving the existing results in terms of modelling of a slip-friction model to reduce the computational resources needed, works on improving the structure mechanics modelling, and improving the coupling between flow and acoustic models by employing an acoustic perturbation equation.
