Conference_programme: 14.2 - Harmonisation of classroom acoustics standards in Europe

Lecture: Applying different acoustical standards in South Tyrolean schools

Author(s): Oberkalmsteiner Richard, Canale Giuseppe, Verdi Luca

Summary:
In this lecture we present our experiences applying different Italian laws, national Italian standards, the German DIN 18041:2004-05 standard “Acoustic quality in small and middle-sized rooms” and the DIN 18041:2016-03 standard “Acoustic quality in rooms – requirements, recommendations and indications for planning”. \nExperiences are based on measurements and evaluations of reverberation time, direct STI-PA and community noise, in teaching rooms, sport halls, playgrounds and dressing rooms in schools and child care facilities, in all types of public and private schools, including nursery schools.\nThe different standards consider targeted reverberation times in classrooms in unoccupied and in occupied conditions. \nWe discuss some examples and show how different revisions of the German DIN 18041 can lead to quite different conclusions in terms of acoustical requirements. \n
