Price: Free for registered participants, exhibitors and accompanying persons; For non-registered accompanying persons: Adults 50€, Children (2 to 12-year-olds)
Registration is required along with conference registration. Participants will have to choose their free tour option during the registration process. Please note that each tour has a limited capacity of 200 persons so when a tour is full, participants will have to choose from the remaining available options.
Option 1: Agios Nikolaos – Elounda
We will depart from the venue at 14:00 pm and we will visit Agios Nikolaos , which is one of the most picturesque towns in East Crete, and the capital of the Lassithi Prefecture. It enjoys a strategic location on the Gulf of Mirabello. A feature of ‘Aghios’, as the locals call it, is the Vouliagmeni Lake, where according to old myth Aphrodite and Athena were to come and bathe.
We will have free time to stroll through the center of Agios Nikolaos with the paved alleys, and then we will board the bus towards Elounda area, which is the most elit luxurious touristic area of Crete . We will make a photo stop for the panoramic view and then we will continue on to to the picturesque fishing village called Plaka. Plaka is situated across from the island of Spinalonga which is visible due to the short distance between them. We will have free time for a stroll at Plaka before we board the bus for our return to the venue.
Option 2: Rethymnon – Kournas Lake
We will depart from the venue at 14:00 pm to visit Lake Kournas, the only freshwater lake in Crete. Lake Kournas was known as Lake Koressia in antiquity but later took its current name from the Arabic word for lake. The lake is in a beautiful landscape, lying in a valley among the hills. We will have free time to enjoy the tranquil beauty of the landscape.
We will then board the bus and we will visit the old town of Rethymnon, which is one of the best-preserved towns of the Renaissance. Lying in the heart of modern Rethymnon, it combines the oriental features of the Turkish period with Renaissance-style Venetian architecture. We will have plenty of free time to enjoy Venetian and Ottoman streets full of local craftsmen and vendors before we board the bus for our return to the venue.
Option 3: Knosos Palace – Walking tour in Heraklion City
We will depart from the venue at 14:00 pm and we will visit the archaeological site of the Knossos Palace.Knossos is the site of the most important and better known palace of Minoan civilization. According to tradition, it was the seat of the legendary king Minos. The Palace is also connected with thrilling legends, such as the myth of the Labyrinth with the Minotaur, and the story of Daidalos and Icaros.
After our guided tour through the ruins of the palace we will have a sightseeing tour around Heraklion city with our bus and then we will continue on to a walking tour which will introduce you to the major monuments of Heraklion such as the Liberty Square, the Central Market, the Morosini fountain and more. Following our walking tour we will have free time to explore the city before we return to the venue.
